Field Trips

The local Yuma area is surrounded by many natural features, including the Colorado & Gila Rivers, deserts, mountains, the Imperial Dunes, and the Salton Sea.  Join us as we explore these areas in search of diverse birds, reptiles, mammals, and plants.

Field trips are usually held the Saturday following the monthly Tuesday meeting.  We car pool at the Red Lobster parking lot (corner of 16 Street & 4th Ave.) at 7:00am.  Past trips have visited the Salton Sea NWR, Cibola NWR, Cienega de Santa Clara, and Palm Canyon.

Birdcage Primrose

Close to Christmas, usually the 3rd Saturday in December, we hold our annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC) and Birdathon.  The 2006 CBC will most likely be on 16 Dec 2006. We count and monitor the status of birds around Imperial NWR, Laguna Dam, and Mittry Lake.

Date of next field trip:
Feb 18, 2005 - meet at Red Lobster parking lot at 7:00am

Location:  Cibola NWR (Sandhill Cranes, waterfowl, & raptors!)
